What are the various pathways and programs?

ALLEY REC / BOYS ALLEY REC:

(MOST POPULAR)

DESCRIPTION:

This program and classes follow the WAG & MAG development path into competitive streams of gymnastics. The classes are progressive, and gymnasts are tested every six (6) weeks. Boys can attend the Alley Rec classes but progression will be to Boys Squad for level 1 and 2 boys.

Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG):

Gymnasts learn and train on WAG specific apparatus that includes the floor, bars, beam, and the vault. This is the most popular gymnastics program and leads to Rec Alley’s competitive streams. Classes focus on skill acquisition and strength. Coaches will also hold higher accreditation as your child progresses to higher levels.

Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG):

Boys will learn and train on MAG specific apparatus that includes the pommel (horse), rings, the vault, parallel bars, horizontal bars and the floor. The program varies from WAG but is similar in pace and development paths towards competitive streams of gymnastics. Coaches will also hold higher accreditation as your child progresses to higher levels.

BEST FIT:

Great for boys and girls who love gymnastics and would like to progress through to competitive streams for gymnastics.

Following this path will see your child develop skills that will help them achieve success in many sports well into their future. Gymnastics, in particular our Alley Rec and competitive program, will help your child develop flexibility, agility, balance, core strength and much more.

Best suits children who enjoy acquiring skills over time and would like to attend competitions with their fellow gymnasts in the future.

We recommend this for those who will continue to enjoy an active recreational lifestyle and play various sports.

JNR TRICKERS

DESCRIPTION:

The Trickers program and classes focus on floor work and/or skills that include working safely towards achieving the barani, cartwheels and similar. Classes are recreational but progressive, with the skills being taught increasing in difficulty as your child progresses through them. The starting point for 5 year olds is Jnr Trickers. Coaches will also hold higher accreditation as your child progresses to higher levels.

BEST FIT:

Popular with girls who do not want to compete in the future but love to learn how to safely cartwheel, complete the barani and similar floor gymnastics skills. Progression is available too. Friendly competitions may be an option in the future.

JNR TUMBLERS

(REC ALLEY MINTO ONLY)

DESCRIPTION:

Only available at Rec Alley Minto, this program is exciting and fast paced with gymnasts working on their tumbling skills on the tumbling trampoline, air mat and floor. Coaches will also hold higher accreditation as your child progresses to higher levels.

BEST FIT:

For girls or boys who love to tumble. Great for gymnasts who love a fast paced and energetic class. Minimal waiting around and not focused on long term skill acquisition. Progression is available too.

JNR PARKOUR

(MOST POPULAR WITH BOYS!)

DESCRIPTION:

The Parkour program focuses on overcoming obstacles, hurdling, free running, rolling and much more. The starting point for 5 year olds is Jnr Parkour. Coaches will also hold higher accreditation as your child progresses to higher levels. Some classes are taught by specific parkour coaches.

BEST FIT:

Most popular class with boys. Very energetic and fast paced, not to mention the ‘cool’ factor of learning skills like rolling or hurdling. Minimal waiting around and progression to higher skills is available.
